Yeewi in Bogotá for the ICFP: From Community Advocacy to Political Change

Session theme: Legal Reform and Access to Safe Abortion

Yeewi had the honor of participating in the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP) in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2025, to share our unique experience in community advocacy for the legalization of safe abortion in Senegal, under the framework of the Maputo Protocol.

Amid the rise of anti-rights movements and mounting threats to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), this session highlighted how, in Senegal, grassroots community advocacy can transform into a powerful political lever for change. Whether engaging funders, activists, healthcare workers, or NGO representatives, this session provided a unique opportunity to explore:

Yeewi’s strategies for mobilizing communities and raising awareness among youth and healthcare professionals.

How local initiatives, such as Xool Ko ci sa Bopp Pamoja, translate the rights guaranteed under Article 14.2.c of the Maputo Protocol into concrete grassroots action.

The impact of citizen mobilization on political discourse and policy decisions regarding reproductive health in Senegal.

Yeewi is raising its voice, and amplifying those of the communities we represent, fighting for a Senegal where sexual and reproductive health and rights are fully respected 🇸🇳
