Who are we?
Yeewi — which means to liberate in Wolof — is a Senegalese feminist association founded in 2020. We take action to improve menstrual health and defend the rights of women and girls. Through our programs, Yeewi promotes their empowerment and protects their fundamental rights, particularly their sexual and reproductive health rights.
What do we do?
Since our founding, Yeewi has been fighting tirelessly so that every woman and girl, wherever she lives in Senegal, has access to menstrual products and dignified healthcare facilities. We refuse to let period poverty keep girls out of school or stop women from working. Menstruation must never be an obstacle to freedom.
We smash taboos; we talk openly about our bodies, the menstrual cycle, and sexual and reproductive rights, because silence and shame must no longer dictate the lives of women and girls.
As a feminist organization, Yeewi demands true equity and the upholding of fundamental rights: access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare. We champion the fundamental right to experience one’s period safely, with dignity, free from discrimination, violence, and compromise.
Our Actions
Workshops, distribution drives, awareness campaigns: Yeewi takes daily action to secure menstrual health access and women’s rights.
Our Carte Rose tool empowers young girls to easily locate care, support, and listening facilities.
